What steps should I follow to report military leave?
When employees are called to active-duty military service, you should review and communicate to them the potential impact on their VRS benefits. Also, take the necessary reporting steps as the employee goes on leave, and later when the employee returns to the workplace.
A member called to active-duty military service is eligible for service credit for the time served, provided he or she returned to covered VRS service within one year of discharge or release from active duty and the discharge was not dishonorable. The credit counts toward becoming vested in the retirement plans, eligibility for retirement and the health insurance credit.
Follow these steps to stay compliant with federal law and VRS requirements. For answers to other common questions, review the job aid: Managing an Employee’s Military Leave.
