How can members help prevent identity theft involving their VRS benefits?

VRS and its partners are committed to protecting the security and privacy of member information.

Make Security an Everyday Focus

In your next employee newsletter or on your intranet, consider including these security tips:

  • Register your myVRS and defined contribution accounts. Prevent someone else from attempting to claim the accounts fraudulently. For your security, passwords must be reset every 90 days.
  • VRS automatically locks all myVRS accounts if not registered within 90 days of a member’s hire date. To establish an account after it has been locked, call VRS at 888-827-3847. Members who have registered but have not accessed myVRS within 90 days will be required to reset their passwords to log in.
  • Keep your contact information current with VRS. This simple step ensures communications only reach you. If you change your address, phone number or email, update your VRS account(s) immediately to reflect the change. We recommend using a personal email address and phone number.
  • Create strong and unique passwords for your VRS account(s). Refrain from using passwords that are simple, can be easily guessed or are reused from another account.
  • Check out the VRS Security Center (varetire.org/SecurityCenter) for additional online safety tips.
