Retirement Education Seminars
VRS will hold several on-site Retirement Education Seminars across the state this fall. Designed for members within five to 10 years of retirement, these half-day sessions are free to any VRS member, and registrations are open (click on Book an Appointment):
- Blue Ridge Community College, Weyers Cave, November 7, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
- VRS Counseling Center, Richmond, November 18, 8:30 a.m.–1 p.m.
Interested in hosting a Retirement Education Seminar? We ask that your facility be able to accommodate a minimum of 75 people. Sessions must be open to all VRS members. For more information, contact the VRS Retirement Outreach team.
Retirees Can Receive Tax Forms Electronically
Retirees can now opt out of paper delivery and choose to receive their IRS Form 1099-R and W-2 electronically through myVRS.
This option offers a faster, more convenient way for members to access their tax documents. They can change their selection at any time. Those who don’t opt out will continue to receive paper copies by mail.
Tax documents will be available in retirees’ myVRS accounts by January 31, 2026, consistent with IRS guidelines.
VRS Earns High Marks in Peer Comparison
VRS remains in the high-service, low-cost category compared to its peers, according to an annual study from CEM Benchmarking, which compares retirement systems in the United States and around the world.
- Service score of 81 is in line with our peers.
- Pension administration cost is $81 per member, below the peer average of $125.
VRS participates in the benchmarking comparison each year to identify opportunities to further improve service and reduce costs.
myVRS Security Tip: Use Mobile Number and Personal Email
Employees can protect their online accounts by claiming them, using a personal email (not a work email), and keeping their contact information up to date. Members can review security best practices in the VRS Security Center.
