Look Ahead: Processing Tips for Hybrid Plan Auto-Escalation in January
December 2025
Beginning January 1, 2026, the Hybrid Retirement Plan’s auto-escalation feature will increase member contributions by 0.5% to the Hybrid 457 Deferred Compensation Plan for those not already saving 4%. This increase occurs every three years until members reach the 4% maximum, which qualifies them for the full 2.5% employer match.
Members who do not wish to participate in auto-escalation must opt out this month.
Key Dates
- Opt-out window: December 1-31.
- Members can:
- Set their own contribution percentage
- Customize automatic increases with SmartStep.
- Opt out by logging in at https://dcp.varetire.org/login or calling 877-327-5261 by 4 p.m., December 31.
- No action is required if the member accepts the automatic increase.

- Auto-escalation changes will appear on your Deferral Change Report. Review the Voya job aid for instructions.
- Allow extra time for processing, as volume will be higher than usual.
