Look Ahead: Processing Tips for Hybrid Plan Auto-Escalation in January

Beginning January 1, 2026, the Hybrid Retirement Plan’s auto-escalation feature will increase member contributions by 0.5% to the Hybrid 457 Deferred Compensation Plan for those not already saving 4%. This increase occurs every three years until members reach the 4% maximum, which qualifies them for the full 2.5% employer match.

Members who do not wish to participate in auto-escalation must opt out this month.

Key Dates

  • Opt-out window: December 1-31.
  • Members can:
    • Set their own contribution percentage
    • Customize automatic increases with SmartStep.
    • Opt out by logging in at https://dcp.varetire.org/login or calling 877-327-5261 by 4 p.m., December 31.
    • No action is required if the member accepts the automatic increase.

What to Expect in January

  • Auto-escalation changes will appear on your Deferral Change Report. Review the Voya job aid for instructions.
  • Allow extra time for processing, as volume will be higher than usual.
